The 'tail' in the Funny Farm

With the teacher shortage I have spent time the last few years teaching 5th grade and HS English while still trying to support the libraries at the middle and high schools. When I am not in the pages of a book, our family works together to support our 2nd generation dairy farm. My husband keeps, me, our three girls, and their much younger brother busy as we navigate the day to day on our funny farm. I was introduced to the world of blogging when I was first a teacher-librarian, but never really took the time to start one. I have since visited so many blogs and seen such great things I felt like I should start one of my own.

I also am still learning to put my life back together after a severe case of postpartum depression. I was sort of ashamed to talk about it for awhile because it didn't make sense in my head so how could I explain it to anyone else. Doing what any good librarian would do, I started doing some research and I came across some great websites and blogs of other women who have lived to tell about their experience with postpartum depression. I was amazed to see I was not alone and I wanted to share my story too. I also found it very helpful to write about how I was feeling, so I think this will be some good therapy too.

We live on my husband's families dairy farm with our three daughters and a son. My husband keeps very busy milking about 80 Holstein cows, bottle feeding about 25 calves, and raising and feeding 100 or so more heifers and steers. When I was thinking of a name for this blog, funny farm just seemed to fit, because most days that is what it is around here. I added the play on words with tails because thanks to a wonderful teacher I will never forget I love a good pun and these really are the 'tails' of my life.
